Distribution: Occurring in the Olympics and Cascades mountains in Washington; British Columbia to California, east to the Rocky Mountains.

Habitat: Mountain meadows and rocky slopes, subalpine and alpine.

Flowers: July-September

Origin: Native

Description:
General:

Perennial from a short, woody, branching base and creeping rhizomes, the several stems erect, 3-15 cm. tall, the herbage covered with short, fine, stalked glands.

Leaves:

Leaves oblanceolate to spatulate or oblong, the basal ones 1.5-7 cm. long and 4-12 mm. wide, the cauline leaves ample, only slightly reduced.

Flowers:

Heads solitary, cup-shaped; involucre 6-12 mm. high, its bracts sub-equal, green or somewhat papery, often purplish; rays 13-35, 6-ll mm. long, yellow and pistillate; disk flowers numerous, yellow.

Fruits:

Achenes elongate.
